To reach a century of life is not that common. To have lived a life worthy of a movie script at this age is even more unusual. This is the case for Edward Allcard, English resident of La Massana, who turned 100 on the 31st of October. The secret to reaching a century, according to him, is look after yourself until you are 98. The road to 100 is then much easier.
A century of life deserves a special celebration. Most of all with family, recently arrived from Canada and England. Then there’s also the personal congratulations from the Queen of the United Kingdom. Furthermore, this year his birthday included a visit from the mayor of La Massana, who also delivered the cake.
Good humour, healthy and simple living, without tobacco, healthy food, good genes, but above all else: "to have the will to live", says his wife Clare Allcard.
A life like those in the movies unites Edward and Clare, which started in the 60s when she was 21 years old and decided to accompany Edward, 53 at the time, on a sailing journey all over the world. After almost 20 years sailing, an advert in a Singapore newspaper by an Andorran estate agency brought them to the country and they have been living here now for almost 30 years.
