“DALÍ. LA DIVINA COMÈDIA” From 11/06/2015 to 27/09/2015 Centre d’Art (CAEE), ( Escaldes-Engordany

The exhibition presented at the CAEE brings together a series of 100 woodcuts that Salvador Dalí made between 1959 and 1963 to illustrate an edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy, the 14th century poem that supposed an inflection point between medieval thought and the Renaissance.

In this work, Salvador Dalí paid homage to the great masters of painting such as Rafael, Vermeer, Velázquez and Miquel Àngel, maintaining his language connected to surrealism. The series obviously highlights his technical domain and the incorporation of Dalian iconographic elements.

The illustration of the Divine Comedy arose as a commission from the Italian government for the commemoration of the 7th centenary of the birth of the poet who, despite being retired, finished it on his own account.

Around the exhibition, which will be at the Escaldes-Engordany Art Centre for the whole summer, different activities have been organised, all free every day except for Saturdays, when they have a symbolic price of 3 euros.

From 11 June to 27 September 2015. At the Escaldes-Engordany Art Centre (CAEE), Av. Carlemany, 30. Entrance free. Evening visits on Thursdays 16 July, 20 August and 3 September, at 8.30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Places limited, booking beforehand required.
