Skiers from Palma, Canary Islands and Porto for the coming winter.

Viatges Regina flights offer for summer ends this Saturday with an occupancy 30.18% of total capacity, according to its director, Alberto Vinseiro. Although initially expected to cover 70% of the 1,100 places available, seeing the first weeks bookings and marketing problems with Madrid operators, meant that it lowered 50% of the expectations. Finally, 332 passengers have enjoyed some of the packages or flights to Palma and Madrid or from these destinations and Andorra la Seu.

In the case of Palma, occupation has been both to La Seu /Andorra as to Mallorca, 37%; while traveling to or from Madrid 13%. The reason, according Vinseiro is the "penalty" by some traders who have suffered as El Corte Inglés, but instead the valuation of Palma is "very positive" and only with this market, "we would have amply covered the expectations" .

The responsible for Viatges Regina admits that they close the summer season with losses but "we had to take the risk," he says.

Skiers proximity

The first priority is that the airport has a GPS so planes can land in winter. Everything depends on this technology, but as the head of the company says, "it is outrageous to have this airport if the aircraft can not land here in winter."

The idea would bring skiers to nearby markets. Seeing the operation of Palma during the summer, is seen as a viable option because "Palma skiers are required to take the plane". Porto is also seen as a possible destination, like A Coruña, because "they have 21-hour bus" instead of the hour and a half trip which is by plane. Canary Islands is another possibility, although is pending on technical problems with the Tenerife's airport.
