The government’s new exhibition area in Escaldes-Engordany, ARTALROC, opens to the public with “Andorra, interior landscapes”, where the works displayed are those which Andorra presented at the 56th Venice Art Biennial, by the artists Roqué and Joan Xandri.
ROQUÉ Roqué’s works have to be contemplated as beautiful landscape with a tendency to deploy itself horizontally without a true focal point or centre of symmetry. In the background, real and post-modern dead natures make the spectator receptive to a meeting with the unknown through a confrontation with him or herself and a space in which mental play is possible.
JOAN XANDRI Before the tyranny of a giant digital memory imposed by the vertical power of the great Internet enterprises in which amnesia is in fact totally impossible, as all the data are stored and the perimeter deprived of thousands of millions of individuals has disappeared, Joan Xandri, painter, presents some forty pictures left standing directly on the ground and intricate, often upside down. A reflection to apprehend the limits of every individual has to impose itself in order to save their intimacy and yet more their soul.
